Welcome to my e-Portfolio!

9 11 2009

jessica vooI’m currently a student at BCIT’s Marketing Entrepreneurship program. My goal is to be an entrepreneur in internet marketing. I chose to be an entrepreneur so that I can help solve lots of people’s problems.

I also love to give back to the community, by doing this I am involved with a non-profit organization called SIFE. The two projects I am involved with is Stock Challenge and Lions Lair. Please visit my SIFE BCIT page for more information.

On the weekends, I work at Chevron as an assistant manager. Though I am not looking into retail, the experience that I have gotten from working at Chevron has definitely changed me as a person.

After school, I take dance classes to keep in shape and have fun at the same time. Last year I took Jazz, this year I wanted to take Jazz again, unfortunately the class didn’t work with my school schedule, so I took the challenge of learning Hiphop.

Take a look around. Stuff that I’ve posted and will post is what I am currently doing or have done inside, outside, and around school. It’s how I balance out my life.

Peak Potentials

11 11 2009

This past summer, I spent 3 weeks in Squamish volunteering for a couple of personal development camps. If you have ever talked to me, you’ll always hear me mention something about Peak Potentials, which is the company that holds these camp. I had the opportunity to help change 700 lives. Not only that, but I got to meet such awesome people who have such a different energy. Every time I talk to these people, my heart seems to fill up with happy bubbles and I would feel like I am really my true self.

Peter Legge

7 11 2009

Recently, I went to one SA’s (Student Associations) events. This one was an entrepreneur named Peter Legge. He came in to motivate us students. Things he talked about involved what he does compared to what the average Joe does.

He gave the example, that he reads a book a week. Then he gave the stats on how the average University student reads a book a year. That’s a ratio of 52:1, which means he’s learning 52 times as much out of books on his own time than the average student. It made me thinking, why am I not doing that?

Another example was to do a little more than what’s required. He told us a story of how his daughter wanted a job at Please mum. and she had an interview. He told his daughter to borrow some clothes from his mom, show up 10-15 mins early for her interview, and to do a little more than what’s required. When she showed up for her interview the manager told her to have a seat and to give her a  couple of mins till the store quiet down. However, the store suddenly got real busy. His daughter, sitting there thought of what he had told her, “do more than what’s required”. So she got up, and she helped the manager line up all the customer’s clothes for her to ring in. After the store was cleared, the manager told her that she doesn’t even have to interview her. She did such a good job that she decided to her on the spot.

I thought what he gave was some pretty good advice that students really need to hear.

SIFE BCIT in Whistler

7 11 2009

I am currently in UBC’s Whistler lodge with other SIFE members from BCIT. We played some team building exercises earlier and bonded. I got the opportunity to get to know my friends more and meet new people. There’s lots of laughter, filling memories and hard work, getting homework done while having fun.

Team Charter

3 11 2009

Here’s what our laid out ground rules are for my team at BCIT. We all thought it was going to be an easy assignment for Organizational Behaviour. It ended up taking us hours and hours of work to complete it. However, it was a well written contract between the six of us.

Grammar check with ms word 2007

27 10 2009

There are many ways to do a grammar check with ms word.

Step 1

MS word will have a red squiggly line under a word that is spelled wrong.

Squiggly lines

To correct the word, move the cursor over the word with a red squiggly line under it, and right-click. Two windows will show up. The bottom one will give you a list of what the word you were trying to type may be. Simply click on the correct one and it will automatically change it. However, the word you were spelling, may not show up. Such as robson, should have been Robson, but it doesn’t give me that option.

Right click on word errors

Step 2

Spell check is a very good way to check your spelling for your entire document. Under the Review tab on top, there is a Spell check icon you may click on.

Spell check

After you click on it, a window will show up and will do a check for all the words in your document.

Spelling and grammar window

After you’ve clicked on a word suggested, click on change, and it will bring you to the next word error.

Step 3

The last step is really to read over and edit your document on your own. Sometimes, a word that is spelled correctly may not be the appropriate spelling for your sentence. Such as mistaking their for they’re.

Have fun with it! And always remember to edit your documents.
